The Conscience

“He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. John 8:7-9

The morning news is filled with crimes committed on others by those that seem to have no conscience. Those perpetrators care little that the others had families, some with small children. They don’t care about age. Even someone that just proposed to his girlfriend is not safe from them.

If these people allowed Jesus into their heart their lives would change. Mine did! And I continue to change as the Holy Spirit deals with me day to day.

When Jesus dealt with those men demanding the stoning of an adulterous woman, it only took a word from Him to eat away at each man’s conscience.

The conscience is a powerful thing. I believe the closer to holiness you become the more your conscience eats away at you.
Those men stood before the Most Holy and had to drop what they were doing and leave.
In the presence of Him, Peter fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!” (Luke 5:8) His conscience got the best of him.

If you want to please God with a holy life, then your conscience will work overtime on you. As you pray and read His word, you cannot help but look at your life and realize the things you need to rid yourself of, and the things you need to apply to your life.
