Herod had laid hold of John and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife. Because John had said to him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.” Matt 14:3-4
So let me see if I have this right.
John said to Herod it was sinful for him to be living with his brother’s wife.
Herod imprisoned him for it.
Oh, now I understand! It’s because John was judging Herod and Herodias! He stuck his nose where it did not belong. It wasn’t any of his business how the couple was living.
The Law said you shall not uncover the nakedness of your brother’s wife; it is your brother’s nakedness (Lev 18:16) and if a man takes his brother’s wife, it is an unclean thing. He has uncovered his brother’s nakedness. They shall be childless (Lev 20:21).
But that is old fashion thinking and times have change. The Word of God is outdated and antiquated.
In these enlightened times, people should leave others alone. Certain things need removing from the Bible because of the judgmental overtone.
Like what Paul said to the Corinthians – it is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and such sexual immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles — that a man has his father’s wife! 1 Cor 5:1
I am constantly told, “Only God can judge me!”
You are right! And His word does judge you. And when I read His word I see the judgment you stand in.
Do you want me to warn you of the judgment or not? Or just let you live and die in sin?
Know this, when I warn you of the judgment I also give you the cure – JESUS!
I will tell you of salvation and forgiveness; of grace and mercy.
I will tell you of a more abundant and blessed life!
