Now it came to pass after these things that Joseph was told, “Indeed your father is sick”; and he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. Gen 48:1
A sickness has grabbed hold of me again. It’s just a cold but you know how bad a cold can make you feel with its pounding sinuses, coughing, and congestion.
It made me curious about the first mention of someone being sick in the Bible.
It ended up being Jacob, who succumbed to old age and some sickness took hold of him to the point of causing him to be bedridden. (see Gen 48:2)
From this point forward you’ll find many more mentions of sickness, including a great prophet – Elisha had become sick with the illness of which he would die. 2 Kings 13:14
Jesus came to end sickness and death.
When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: “He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.” Matt 8:16-17
I will survive this cold, though it is annoying. There is another sickness that plagues everyone and it’s called sin. This sickness leads to death.
Truly Jesus has put an end to sins reign.
When you accept Jesus as Savior the disease of sin over you is ended!
