I see – I covet

When I saw among the spoils a beautiful Babylonian garment, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them and took them. Josh 7:21

Coveting begins in many forms, one begins with the eyes.
You see what you covet. Uncontrolled, it leads a strong temptation to obtain.
Achan saw the goods of Jericho and coveted them. The temptation became too great and he took them.

When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. Gen 3:6
Eve saw the fruit, it lead to temptation that she did not control.

It seems to me coveting leads to a cascading affect to other sins. You covet first then you steal, disobey God, murder, or commit adultery, just to name a few.

David saw Bathesheba and coveted her leading him down a spiraling path of dishonesty, death, and destruction.

There is nothing wrong with looking at beautiful garments, fruit, or a beautiful woman. Wrong takes place when looking becomes lusting (coveting) and that leads to the next step.
The words of the Psalmist are a great reminder to you, “Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things.” (Ps 119:37) Worthless things would lead to sin and sin is not worth it!
