“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.” Ex 20:17
We had a discussion on coveting last night. One person was wondering if she had coveted. I think at one time most have!
The dictionary describes that act as an excessive and unreasonable desire often for another’s possessions.
No one ever covets to move down. You only covet to move up.
In Eden, Eve coveted the forbidden fruit because she thought it would improve her life.
She believed it would make her like God.
Had the serpent said, “If you eat this fruit it will make you stupid” she probably would have said, “No thanks!”
If he said, “Please eat this fruit. It will make you ugly,” again, “No thanks!”
Had he said, “Eat this fruit and God will banish you from Eden. You will be branded a sinner and eventually die, be judged, and cast into the lake of fire!”
Satan is a liar! He wants you to think you’re moving up. His desire is to control and destroy you.
Coveting draws you away from God and convinces you that happiness is found in obtaining the object you desire. True happiness is found in God.
If you want an excessive desire – covet God! Seek a fresh filling of the Holy Spirit!
Pray for His guidance and blessings to overwhelm your life.
