Find out for yourself

…and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so. Acts 17:11

The setting was the town of Berea. Paul preached that Jesus is the Christ.
The Berean’s did not know him.
Was he a false prophet or a con artist?
Rather than just reject him, the Berean’s decided to dig into the Word for themselves and determine if Paul was speaking the truth.

I have often told my congregation to check for themselves what I preach in the scriptures. A great practice to use on anyone preaches or teaches.

TV, radio, print, and the internet are full of those proclaiming or quoting from God’s word. What they say must stack up with the rest of the scripture.
To their defense (and mine) sometimes a scripture does not come to mind that may either validate what is said or change the interpretation.

Searching the scriptures is not just to “find out whether these things were so” but also to increase your own knowledge of God’s word.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Tim 3:16-17

  2. 2Timothy 3:16 was one of the first verses I Printed out on a poster board & displayed it on the wall. It’s like seeing an old friend again. And you’re more than right. When we look up a scripture Father God shows reveals more of Himself to us.
