Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified. 1 Cor 9:24-27
The summer Olympics will begin in August. Athletes from all over the world will meet in Rio de Janeiro and compete in 41 different sports.
The athletes have trained for years, disciplining their bodies into submission to accept the rigorous demands of their sport.
The entire purpose of every one of the Olympians is to strive to win the gold medal.
But each event will only award the gold medal to an individual winner or team. Not everyone will win the gold.
There will be a winner of the silver and a winner of the bronze. The majority of the athletes win nothing.
Contrast that with what the Apostle Paul said. Each person that knows Jesus as Savior will obtain the prize of an imperishable crown.
The Bible also reveals that the prize of believers is eternal life, an eternal home, no death, no pain, and no tears.
As a Christian you are already a winner through Jesus Christ.
