Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright as of this day.”
And Esau said, “Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?” Gen 25:31-32
How many trade a gift from God for something that seems, at the time, to be of greater value?
Like Esau, adversity causes them to take an easy route at the expense of God’s blessing.
Esau’s action reminds me of the words of Jesus – the birthright and hunger were a straight and narrow way but he traded it for a broader road of a full belly.
Going to church can be difficult – straight and narrow.
Staying home – broad and easy.
Controlling your temper – straight and narrow.
Yelling, screaming, and throwing a fit – broad and easy.
Talking down to someone – broad and easy.
Encouraging someone – straight and narrow.
Don’t do like Esau and take the easy way. Choose straight and narrow and hold to God and what is right.
