I believe Christian’s are some of the most giving people around. It doesn’t matter if those needing help are Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, or atheist – if someone is in need a Christian will help.
I often see a church load up a trailer with water and food supplies and head to some tornado stricken area.
When a family loses everything in a house fire, Christian’s don’t ask about church affiliation or involvement – we just give.
This is another characteristic of Christianity – helping others.
Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common. Acts 4:32
I have heard there was a time in which the churches helped people get back on their feet. Sadly the Great Depression may have changed this as the government stepped into to offer assistance to even those attending the depression stricken church.
The church never recovered as government programs took away those needing help and made them dependent on permanent aide.
Total dependency was never the intent of charitable giving. When you help those in need it is simply to get them through a hard time and back on their own feet.
Total dependency is not scriptural.
If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat. 2 Thess 3:10
