Christian – part 7

The list of characteristics that led those early believers to be called Christian continues to grow.
So far it includes being together in belief, filled with the Spirit, testifying about the scriptures, proclaiming Jesus as the only way, giving the plan of salvation, and continuing every day!

Today is something that is not unique to Christian’s. It is not a monopoly held by the followers of Christ. In fact people of all faith’s and religion’s also perform this, including the Jews that persecuted the early church. But when the believers did this – things happened!

A Christian must pray!

Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. Acts 3:1

And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness. Acts 4:31

we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word. Acts 6:4

when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. Acts 8:15

Peter put them all out, and knelt down and prayed. Acts 9:40

Scripture strongly encourages each believer to pray!

continuing steadfastly in prayer; Rom 12:12

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; Phil 4:6

Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving; Col 4:2

pray without ceasing, 1 Thess 5:17

I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting; 1 Tim 2:8

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit. James 5:13-18

A Christian that does not pray – isn’t!
