Christian – part 1

In his response to Pope Francis, Donald Trump said, “I am proud to be a Christian.”
That leads me to ask “What is a Christian” because I look at the claim of Donald Trump; then I see a Televangelist; then I see someone from 1st Baptist and all make the claim but all live it differently. Sometimes I see blatant sin intermixed with that testimony.

So what is a Christian?

Acts 11:26 And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.

What led to the disciples of Christ being labeled Christian in Acts 11. It must be the events from the ascension of Jesus in chapter one to that time in chapter eleven.

It’s given that you must proclaim Jesus as Savior to be labeled a Christian. So I’ll just proclaim that first.

In Acts 2:1 – When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
This is the first thing that happened – not Pentecost – but being together in one accord.
Christian’s are like minded, or we should be.
Yet, we are far from thinking alike. Going through any town you will see 1st Baptist, 1st Assembly of God, Church of Christ, 1st Pentecostal, Methodist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Non-Denominational, 2nd Baptist, Church of God in Christ Jesus, Christian church, and on and on and on.

If another day of Pentecost type event took place it would find us divided and hardly in one accord.

I believe Jesus weeps over our divisions. He weeps when we fight against each other.
It’s no wonder the word Christian can leave a bad taste in the mouth of the world.
Let us no longer bicker with others that also profess Jesus as Savior. Let us rise together and evangelize the lost!
