US Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia was a conservative justice believing the Constitution was not a living document that changed with the whims and fads of society. He believed in the intent of the Founders as his basis in his decisions.
President Obama was asked if he would replace Justice Scalia with a moderate and the answer was, “No.”
You know as well as I, that judges are as different as night and day. One judge is liberal and the next is conservative. The Supreme Court is a great example of diversity in decisions based on the same document. The Court doesn’t make law but is to interpret the Constitution. That interpretation differs from justice to justice – even though they base their decision on the same document.
The same exists in Christianity. One Christian believes it’s permissible to do something, while another calls it sin. This based on the same document – The Bible!
Now, unlike Justice Scalia’s view of the Constitution, the Bible is living!
Heb 4:12 – For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
For me the “living” does not reflect a change with the whims and fads of society. In fact, the Bible transcends culture. While the US Constitution does not do affect someone living in India – the Bible does. The Bible has the ability to change the lives of everyone that reads it.
Still the interpretation of key scriptures differs from Christian to Christian.
Unlike each of us, He shall judge the world in righteousness, and He shall administer judgment for the peoples in uprightness. Ps 9:8
Ps 96:13 For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with righteousness, And the peoples with His truth.
Ps 98:9 For He is coming to judge the earth. With righteousness He shall judge the world, And the peoples with equity.
Who is He? The Bible is clear.
He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead. Acts 17:31
The One raised from the dead is the Lord Jesus Christ. He will judge not according to interpretation but by righteousness according to His word. There will be no arguments, no appeal, and no written dissent.
John 5:30 – My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.
John 8:15-18 – You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one. And yet if I do judge, My judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent Me. It is also written in your law that the testimony of two men is true. I am One who bears witness of Myself, and the Father who sent Me bears witness of Me.
Jesus does not have to argue the case against you. You are already guilty. You are already condemned. (John 3:18)
Jesus came to save and to give life! (John 3:17; 12:47)
