Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matt 11:28
That famous saying from Jesus sounds like a chance for retirement – an end to labor and heavy burdens, coupled with rest.
It’s far from anything to do with retirement and has everything to do with ending the search for salvation.
In the following verse He says the words “rest for your souls”.
Many think some kind of work or benevolent act will get them in good with God and gain them assured entrance to heaven. You can work hard all your life trying to please God and fail.
You cannot please God on your own. Jesus said,
“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me,” Matt 11:29
A yoke was used to couple two like minded animals together, like oxen. They had to work together in unison and move in the same direction at the same speed.
Jesus used this visual word to illustrate that you need to be tied to Him – move as He moves and go where He goes.
With Him helping, you will find life much easier to bear. You will certainly find life after your death easier to bear!
