More Deception

Last time the subject was about deceiving yourself.

I’m sure King Herod felt he was right in thinking the wise men had deceived him. He did ask them to return and tell him where the Child could be found and they did not!

Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men. Matt 2:16

I can get angry and upset when I feel deceived by someone else. But I don’t go out and start killing innocent children!

This is exactly what Herod did.

Logically thinking, the king saw the arrival of the wise men looking for the King of the Jews as a real validation of a threat to his rule. Herod cared little for scripture or God. He was king and comfortable in that position.
He was the type of king that would execute his own wife and children because he thought they were conspiring against him.
He is a man that would do anything to keep himself in power.

God has much to say about deception. Let’s start with one for everyone, including King Herod.

Gal 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.

1 Cor 15:33 Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.”

Eph 5:6-7 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them.

1 Tim 4:1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons

2 Tim 3:13 Evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.

James 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

2 John 7 For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

Rev 12:9 The great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Don’t be deceived by yourself, by false prophets, or by Satan.
Seek the truth that is found in God’s word.
