For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. Luke 6:43-45
I was talking with a fellow pastor about politics yesterday and, in our discussion about the politicians and their religious following I made the statement about one saying he is a Christian.
My friend said, “But I just don’t see the fruit of that!”
Fruit comes in different sizes, shapes, colors, and flavors.
Watermelon is fruit but so are cherries. Definitely a size and taste difference.
I once made a comment about raisins and how small they are. One of the church women told me that raisin’s were a dried up fruit. That’s fine because I’d rather have raisins in my oatmeal cookie than grapes!
My friend is right. There is no fruit of Christianity in that certain politician’s life. You may believe we are judging but I call it an observation or inspection.
Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Matt 7:15-16
Jesus gives the permission to know or judge someone’s actions and character by the fruit or deeds they are doing.
So what kind of fruit are you producing these days.
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Gal 5:22-23
