Against or For

Sometimes you spend more time fighting against things than you do standing for something.
Take the story of Gideon.

The Lord said to him, “Take your father’s young bull, the second bull of seven years old, and tear down the altar of Baal that your father has, and cut down the wooden image that is beside it; and build an altar to the Lord your God on top of this rock in the proper arrangement, and take the second bull and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the image which you shall cut down.” Judg 6:25-26

God instructed him to build an altar to Him in the place of an altar to Baal, a false god. He was to sacrifice to God using the wood in which the idol was made.
Gideon did as he was told.

The next day the men of the city discover what had happened. Now the men should have been worshippers of Yahweh, just as Gideon. But they had turned their back on God.

They begin to investigate who may have done this. They discover it was Gideon.
So the men go to his house and tell his dad to send Gideon out because they are going to kill him for what he has done.

But Joash said to all who stood against him, “Would you plead for Baal? Would you save him? Let the one who would plead for him be put to death by morning! If he is a god, let him plead for himself, because his altar has been torn down!” Therefore on that day he called him Jerubbaal, saying, “Let Baal plead against him, because he has torn down his altar.” Judg 6:31-32

The men of the city were defending a piece of wood made by human hands when they should have been standing with the God of all creation that had delivered and sustained them through the years.

Today you’ll see much the same thing. You can fight against people and politics. You can fight against gun control or picket military action. You have the right to do so. But what little victories you may gather along the way will be changed by someone else later. Those little victories are temporary.

You can fight against everything or you can stand with God.

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Eph 6:13

Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. Gal 5:1

That you may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God. Col 4:12

Stand today for God. Stand for the One that is eternal and can change lives!
