Going Fishing!

I like to watch America’s Got Talent. The things people can do just fascinate me. There are always dancers, magicians, illusionists, mentalists, ventriloquists, and singers.

There are also those that have no talent whatsoever and you wonder why they are even trying out on the show. Face it, busting watermelons with your face is not worth a million dollars and the only exposure someone like that will get is the minute on stage with a red face and a snoot full of melon.

The other night the semi-finals were on and woman came on and sang. She did a really great job. She really has a talent. The judges gave her a standing ovation.
And one of the judges made a comment to her; something like “I’ve never been to church but your singing took me there!”

My wife and I both said, “Wow!”
Neither of us can fathom the idea of not going to church even though we know that many around our area do not go to church. But many of those have been to church. The judge on the show said he had never been in church.

Chances are he has never heard the Word.
So how can someone that has never been to church hear the Gospel and accept Jesus as their personal Savior.

The Bible asks the same question.

How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace,
Who bring glad tidings of good things!” Rom 10:14-15

The answer is obvious – take the Message to them.
It is not for us to go to church, sit, and wait for them to come in.

Think of it this way, it’s like fishing. Now you can have your bait and sit in your boat and hope the fish jump into your boat (after all you have some bait!).
But you know that’s not going to happen.
You will have to go after the fish with a rod, reel, and bait. You will put the bait where the fish are – in the water.
And so it is with people. You must take the Gospel to them if they are not going to come to you.

So bait a line and go fishing!

Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Matt 4:19
