It was a good night at church last night. At least I enjoyed it.
We are now traveling through the book of Romans and have just finished chapter one.
While reading last night I came upon this:
who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. Rom 1:25
I found the term “the lie” quite interesting. It’s not “a lie” but “the”.
So what is “the lie”?
I believe it goes back to the first lie ever told.
Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Gen 3:4-5
The lie starts with a promise that goes directly contrary to what God has said. In this case it was “you will not surely die!”
God said they would! Satan said they would not!
The lie has evolved since then. Speaking of “evolved”, there’s another lie. God says He created all things. In fact it says that several places in the Bible.
The lie says mankind and all other life evolved independently.
The lie continues to expand today – ever changing to meet the needs of people.
For I am the Lord, I do not change; Mal 3:6
God’s word does not change.
You can lie about the Bible!
You can change its meaning to fit your lifestyle.
You can mix words and remove verses.
You can lie and say God will not punish sin. You can say everyone will get a second chance. You can say there are many paths to God and many ways of salvation.
You can say there is no heaven and there is no hell.
You can say it so much that you convince yourself.
You can be very sincere in what you believe and what you say.
But there is nothing worse than someone that is sincerely wrong.
Don’t believe the lie.
Read the truth!
I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 14:6
