The division among us!

For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men? 1 Cor 3:3

This country is divided!
It is no wonder because the division runs throughout the whole of society.

Let’s start with a simple but small thing – schools!

One school begins one week in August while another begins on a different week in August.
One school gives a winter and spring break, while the other gives a spring break but let’s out earlier for summer vacation.
The kids in either school become envious of the other. It’s a division!
If all schools started and ended at the same time with the same holidays then there would be no reason to say “it’s unfair that they’re already finished and we have another week!”

What about churches? It’s another division.
Israel had a central place of worship – the Tabernacle and later the Temple. The people were called to this central place to gather with others.
In this way there was no bragging about how big one temple was over another or how one temple’s furnishings were mere wood and another was covered with gold.

Even in the early church it is written,

all who believed were together, and had all things in common (Acts 2:44)

and

the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common. Acts 4:32

That has all changed. It’s now a matter of keeping up with the Joneses and to outdo one another.

So if there is a division in the smallest of things there is going to be a division in the largest, like the government and the country.
The division is over Obamacare and abortion. It is over marriage. It is over transgender. It is over sin and morality. It is over immigration. It is over the Ten Commandments and signs that say, “Jesus Welcomes You!” It is over Democrat and Republican. It is over the Constitution. It is over a flag!

It is no wonder, that as it stands, there is little hope for this country. It is a carnal land with no spiritual sight. It is a self-serving land that does not seek after God.

And again it goes back to the base foundation set long ago – the worship of God. There is no togetherness among God’s people. One says “I am Baptist” and another says, “I am Pentecostal.”
It seems no one says “I am of Christ!”

And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men? For when one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollos,” are you not carnal? 1 Cor 3:1-4

Years ago I was at a Promise Keepers men’s meeting with 40,000 in attendance.
One of the speakers looked over the crowd and said, “On the count of three I want you to shout out the name of your pastor!”
On three it was a very loud garbled noise of names, none of which were understandable.
Then the speaker continued, “On the count of three shout out the name of your church!”
Again it was an unrecognizable mess!

Then the speaker said, “Now on the count of three I want you to shout out the name of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!”

On three there was a clear, discernible name heard from all 40,000 – JESUS!

Jesus will bring us together! All else will divide!
