Obey and disobey

I discovered that drivers and state troopers are much like people and God.

While on my way to work yesterday morning I crested a hill and saw a state trooper with his flashing red and blue lights on. He had pulled over a large truck.
I was not concerned since I was doing the speed limit and was a lane over from him.

In Texas the state law mandates that if an emergency vehicle is on the shoulder of the road you must either move over to the far lane (if available) or slow down at least 20mph below the posted speed limit.

The speed limit was 55mph so the car next to me, closest to the shoulder, would have to slow down to at least 35. He wasn’t.
Finally he slowed down enough to pull over behind me but as soon as we were clear of the trooper he went back into the other lane and sped ahead. I estimate at least 70mph in a 55.

He maintained the law as long as he was in sight of the trooper. If another trooper had pulled him over the driver might have said, “What is the problem, officer? I pulled over into the other lane!”

Isn’t that like people and God?
They’ll straighten up their behavior or language when they realize I’m a pastor or they’ll come to church, sit, and listen to the message very respectfully but once they are away from the church the drinking, cussing, and sinful living begins.
They will declare before God they went to church, attended a revival, and have a Bible at home. They may say they did not stop the wife and kids from going to church.
They will do their best to maintain innocence.

Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ Matt 7:22-23

If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless. James 1:26

Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths and honor Me with their lips, but have removed their hearts far from Me, Isa 29:13

You can’t fool God! Choose today whom you will serve – God or sin!
