Watch what you bow down to!

It seems strange that we would bow down to other gods, which are not other gods because there is only One true God and He has shown Himself in His Son, Jesus Christ.

Yet, there are many gods in the world that compete for your attention and worship.

You cannot mix gods with God. You cannot compromise the doctrine of gods with God. If you believe there is One true God then follow Him faithfully and with your whole heart. The moment you do not follow Him with your whole heart you mix in another god on top.

In the Bible is the story of a king – Amaziah! He followed God but not with his whole heart. He went to war against a nation of people called Edomites. He won! But in doing so he did the unthinkable.

Now it was so, after Amaziah came from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the people of Seir, set them up to be his gods, and bowed down before them and burned incense to them. Therefore the anger of the Lord was aroused against Amaziah, and He sent him a prophet who said to him, “Why have you sought the gods of the people, which could not rescue their own people from your hand?” 2 Chron 25:14-15

In serving Yahweh he brought back the idols and false gods of the very people he conquered – gods that could not rescue the people he conquered.

This not only angered the Lord God but also gave reason for the nations around him to see the hypocrisy of the king and his people.

Jesus is the only One that has given His life for you. He is the only one that was resurrected so that you, too, may inherit eternal life. He is the only one that sits at the right hand of the Father and makes intercession for you.

Why would you bow down to anything else?
What has money done for you? Or television? Or your job?
These things may be a part of your life (and that’s ok) but they are lesser things. None can save you except the Lord Jesus Christ.
Seek Him first and above all else.

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matt 6:33
