Jesus has the power to overcome anything! Storms, sickness, and even Satan is subject to Him! But those things are minor when compared to the final opponent that affects every person that lives.
The foe has no respect of your age. It doesn’t care how rich or poor you are. It does not discriminate against race or religion. It makes no difference if you are male or female, straight or gay, blonde or brunette.
This enemy of yours is death. Death has always affected everybody in the world the same but unequally. Death can visit those recently born and those that have lived for a hundred years. No matter how long someone may live, the day death visits always comes too soon for the family.
Jesus met a man that begged Him to come home with him because his twelve year old daughter was sick and dying. But on the way their trip was interrupted for a bit and the little girl died.
The man was heartbroken as any parent would be. The hope for his daughter faded away with her last breath – or so he thought. Jesus assured him she was going to be okay.
Then He took the child by the hand, and said to her, “Talitha, cumi,” which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” Immediately the girl arose and walked, for she was twelve years of age. And they were overcome with great amazement. Mark 5:41-42
Jesus can calm the eternal sleep of life!
My Grandmother Swanson was one of the godliest women I have ever known. She personally prepared herself and her family for the day death would visit – from the gown she was wearing to the songs to be sung and the very scripture read at her funeral.
Grandma’s funeral became a celebration of her life here and her awakening there!
I found myself a bit jealous that she was now in the presence of our Savior!
My great aunt became sick with cancer. She was incapacitated and home bound because of it. Her preacher visited one time and asked wanted to pray with her. She told him not to pray for her but for her family. “I have taught them how to live and now I will teach them how to die,” she is reported to have said.
I found it hard to cry at her funeral because of the joy of knowing her comfort now.
Death is an enemy of life. It comes against you in a greater way than anything else and has only one goal – the end of you!
But Jesus has conquered death and has trumped his hand with Eternal Life!
You now have the choice – death or Life through Jesus Christ.
