“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day,
‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ Matt 7:21-23
The words of Jesus tell the story of those that declare their worthiness to enter heaven in a way that does not include through the blood of Jesus.
They declare their works of prophesy, teaching, preaching, church work, evangelism, and so on.
I preach and teach also. And I do it in the name of Jesus but I don’t do it for myself or in my own power. It is for the glory of God and not me or my church.
However Jesus is also giving a stern warning of another kind – a warning for the church of today.
That warning is beware of those that do things in their own name or for their own glory.
Their method is subtle. It sounds good. It looks good. Yet it is not of God.
Paul also addressed this issue.
having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! 2 Tim 3:5
Paul continues about the effect of such people on others.
For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 2 Tim 3:6-7
They have a great knowledge and are impressive in what they say and how it is said. But they are led by lust; they never come to the knowledge of the truth (Jesus).
Watch out for such people that creep into your church or creep into your home through TV, radio, and print.
If Jesus will reject them then so should you! From such people turn away!
