You can’t win them all – part 4

I don’t know about your salvation. I don’t know how many opportunities you have had to accept God’s grace and forgiveness.

He is known as a God of second chances.

Judas has proved to be one bad egg – greedy, a thief, instigator, and, as Christ said, a devil.
Even though he has these qualities, God still gives him another opportunity to repent.

And supper being ended, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. John 13:2-6

This is after supper but before Judas leaves, which means he is present when Jesus washes disciples’ feet, including Judas’. He is still included – still has an opportunity but doesn’t take it.

Then as the disciples sit around the table and Jesus reveals that one of them will betray Him. Each disciple asks if it is he. (Matt 26:22)

Prompted by Peter, John asks Jesus which one of them it is. Jesus loosely says, “It’s the one I give the first bite to!”

And having dipped the bread, He gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. John 13:26

Again Judas has received underserved favor from the Lord. He is offered the first of the supper – an honor! But Judas rejects the divine offer and quickly leaves to do what he wants to do.

Judas is not the only disciple that fails. They each asked if they were the betrayer, which means they all may have thought about it.

Peter will also falter in the next few hours but he takes the second chance and turns to the mercy of the Lord rather than the destruction of himself.

I have seen many people walk into church. They hear the message of God’s love and grace and the need for repentance. Then walk out.

They may get another chance. Then again they may not.

How about you? Have you taken that opportunity to accept Jesus as your Savior?
Do it today while you have that second chance.
