Matt 15:18-19 Those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.

The discussion started when the disciples did not perform some ceremonial washing of their hands before they ate. The religious leaders considered this to defile a person.

Jesus turned it around with the truth about defilement – it comes from within not from without.

Your heart already holds all it takes to defile you. What can you do about it?

You can act on those evil thoughts and face the consequences. (Rev 21:27)

Or you can release these defiling characteristics to the Savior. He can redeem you from the death blow of your own defilement. He can change you from what your heart has in it.

1 Cor 3:17 If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.

Titus 1:15-16 To those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled. They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.

Abba Father, You have cleansed my heart. You have cleansed my mind. In my struggle I always know where to turn! Thank You, Lord, for always being there for me. In Jesus’ name, YES&AMEN
