The strength to stand

Luke 22:34 “Peter, let me tell you something. Before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me.”

He had knowledge that he would do it.
He was probably careful about where he went and who he spoke to – cautious that he would not deny Jesus.

Perhaps he thought he would be caught and questioned by those that took Jesus. Given time and enough forethought, he may have stood his ground and confessed rather than deny.

But the temptation came from an unlikely source at an unlikely time.

A fire had be lit and many stood around warming themselves and gazing at the flames.
A servant girl noticed him in the firelight and began staring at him. Finally she said, “This man was one of Jesus’ followers!” Luke 22:56

His muscles tensed. He turned away and looked at the ground. “Woman,” he said, “I don’t even know him!” Luke 22:57

Caught off guard by the surroundings and the sweet innocence of a young girl, Peter denied Jesus.

Temptation and sin don’t come according to plan – they come suddenly, without warning. Given time you might be able to stand your ground.

With a stronger relationship with Jesus, YOU WILL; just as Peter did in Acts 4:8-22.

Abba Father, I want a closer, deeper relationship with You so that I will always stand for You no matter what comes my way! In Jesus’ name, YES&AMEN

  1. here is a side note on what Jesus told him. The Rooster, as all chicken are, being an unclean animal was not allowed inside the City of Jerusalem. So, how did Peter hear the “Cock crow”? Chuck Swindoll teaches that the sound of the Romans changing the guard in the morning was accompanied by the sound of the trumpet or bugle. This sound was called, in the vernacular of their day, the “Cock Crow” Jesus told Paul the exact time of the day that he would have denied him before. No coincidence was possible.

  2. The scriptures are an example to us, so we can know others have been there & done that too. God forgave them & took them back. He’ll do the same for us if we’ll follow their example. Thank God He thought to show us the way.
