One night a king had a terrible dream.
He wanted to know what it meant but refused to tell his wise men, astrologers, and magicians what the dream was about.
He demanded that they tell him the dream and its meaning.
Of course these men said this was an impossible task and they could not do it.
The king became very angry and gave the order to kill all of the wise men, astrologers, and magicians.
There were some Jews that serve the king as wise advisors and they, too, were to be killed though they had nothing to do with it.
One of these men, Daniel, prayed to the One true God for wisdom and the revelation of the dream.
And that’s what God did for Daniel.
Instead of quickly running to the king to tell him and spare their lives, Daniel took the time to pray and praise God who answered!
“Praise the name of God forever and ever, for he has all wisdom and power. He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars. He reveals deep and mysterious things and knows what lies hidden in darkness, though he is surrounded by light.
I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors, for you have given me wisdom and strength. You have told me what we asked of you and revealed to us what the king demanded.” Dan 2:20-23
You notice that it wasn’t just a little prayer of “Thank you, Jesus!” It was a prayer that truly expressed how Daniel felt and God deserved!
This is a reminder for us today – thank God. Praise God. Glorify Him first when prayer is answered!
